When is Mothers Day celebrated in the United States every year? Mothers Day is always an important day to mark on the calendar and both Americans and Canadians will shower hugs, kisses and good wishes on their mothers this Mothers Day. A closer look at the calendar would reveal that this is the second Sunday in May and that is always the day set aside to celebrate the joys of motherhood. The U.S. and Canada are not alone in the second Sunday in May celebration for mothers. Joining these countries are Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Italy and Turkey. By the time Anna M. Jarvis died in 1948, Mothers Day had gained in popularity and was being celebrated in a total of forty countries.

When's Mothers Day in other places, you continue to wonder? Plenty of other cultures also observe the holiday of Mothers Day. In Britain the day for moms is also referred to as "Mothering Sunday" and falls on the fourth Sunday during the season of Lent. In France the last Sunday of May is when mothers are treated royally. At family suppers on this day a special cake that looks like a flower bouquet is given to mothers in attendance. Mothers Day in Spain is on December 8, a date also known as the "Feast of the Immaculate Conception." On that day mothers are honored along with the holy mother, Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Just like in years gone by, many organizations have protests on Mothers Day such as "The Million Mom March" and protests at nuclear weapon sites. Some of these organizations include the Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament, the Women's International League for peace and Freedom, and the League of Women Voters.

An interesting fact to know is that Mothers Day happens to be the second most common day to give presents in the United States (Christmas is the first). Furthermore, Mothers Day boasts the highest level of long distance phone calls in the U.S. as there are approximately 82.5 million mothers in that part of North America.
